Cake, Cat, & Crazy

My dear people:

I am out of time...again. So you´re all getting bullet points.

-We made a cake with Jonatan and Rebeca. There was enough cream to fill a small astroid crater. Jonatan may have eaten his weight in sugar.
Crazy cake we made last Pday
-We had a Zone Conference. President talked about marriage. We learned that the principle difference between him and Hermana García is that she doesn´t eat tortillas.
-We did intercambios with Alameda. It started out great, Hna Cecilia gave us arroz con leche...and ended with Hna León and Hna Salazar feeling sick. #youcan´twinthemall
Intercambios with Alameda
-Flaviano keeps coming to church despite the fact that we could only teach him once this week and that lesson was sabatoged by a ninja cat that likes pan.
-Sunday I learned (again) that Heavenly Father answers prayers. We found a lost credit card and got to church on time after leaving the house 40 minutes late.

Basically, my life is a little crazy and a lot happy. What else could anyone want?

Smallest scorpion I´ve ever seen...now we´re just looking for his mother....

I love you all.

Christmas, Ocho Principios, & SKYPE

Hi!

This was a really great really busy week full of great things.

Giant Nativity
We had Ocho Prinicipios (training meetings) almost all day Wedesday and ALL day Thursday. They were really long, but also really good days. We started off the meetings Wednesday morning watching an elder running down the street chasing a bus...We were very confused until another elder got off the bus and started running towards him- the bus took off with his companion! haha And we ended the meetings with Presidente taking us out to ice cream on Christmas eve. #Ilovethatman

Speaking of Christmas: I love Christmas. We had a glorious day. Presidente and Hermana García invited us over, so we spent the day in the mission home. (!!!) We ate American food, sang Christmas songs around the piano, gleaned all the advice we could out of Pres. & Hna García, and skyped our families.

Shout out to my family: I love you people.

After we dropped the other sisters off in their pueblo (#firsttimeI´veseenapueblo), dropped the assistants off in their area, and then went home.

It was a great Christmas.

Also, after Christmas we found this really great family. And we´re sure there are more like them out there. And we´re going to go find them. Because that is what Christmas (and the gospel) is all about; bringing hope and joy and a new beginning.

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas. Happy New Year!! I love you all!!

Miracles, 5, & HNUS

MTC!

Elder Relitz, Elder Wright, Elder Evan, Elder Calmes, Me, Hna Rhondeau
Hola!

I saw two miracles this week:
1. Yuri a less active member who we have been visiting had cancer...and now she doesn´t. We´re not sure how it happened, but it is amazing and was the result of a lot of prayers and fasting.
2. Armando. He´s a less active member we found in like July. He got REALLY sick this last week and I honestly thought he was dying. But the whole ward got moving and started helping and now´s he´s doing so much better. And one of the families is going to take him to live with them!

Armando. My miracle.
Okay three miracles, this week after not finding more than 1 new investigator last week, we found 5...in one day. I´m not entirely sure how it happened but I know that it wasn´t us who did it. This is the Lord´s work, and He prepares a way for it to happen.

Also we had our Christmas party yesterday (hence I´m writing on Tuesday) and even though that meant we got up at 1amand got home at 11:30pm it was really awesome. Highlights:
-Presidente & Hna Garcia spoke
-Our Zone Leaders fell asleep while we sang silent night.
-Seeing the WHOLE mission. And knowing a lot more people than last year.

Love these guys.
Hna Hoggan & Hna Velasquez

My kids! (& Hna Hoggan!)
-Getting our generation together after almost 15 months
Our generation
-Christmas.

And what I´ve thought about is that during Christmas we celebrate the birth of Christ. Because without Him there would be no way to ever go back ot the presence of our Heavenly Father. Every mistake and every error would move us farther away from Him forever.

But Christ was born in Bethlehem more than 2000 years ago.

And He lives today.

And through Him we can start over. We can repent. Ane we can return to our Father in Heaven.

I love you all!

¡Vale la pena!

Dogs, Interviews, & Missionaries

Hola!

We had a good week! Lots of things happened:

President came to Campeche this week! And that meant three things:
1. We had interviews. I never know what to expect with interviews; last time we talked about how many tortillas I should eat, this time we talked about what brand of shoes I have... I love President.
2. Hna Garcia checked our house. Which meant we cleaned REALLY well before. And we passed with flying colors. I think that´s because compared to the elders´ houses ours was a dream.
3. Before interviews Tuesday Hna Garcia took me, Hna Romero, Hna Schmit, & Hna Allen to the mall to get ice cream and crepes. It was a great day...even if Hna Garcia almost fell trying to go down the up escalator. hahahha

I realized that last week I sent the really bad, awkward, we-weren´t-ready-for-the-picture picture.

Woops...
I just want everyone to be aware that I still hate the dogs. I almost got eaten at least four times this week. Twice with Hna Allen in one day (we were on divisions...she has really bad luck with dogs), once with just Hna Romero and I, and once with two YW (who knows if they´ll ever come with us again). I hate them. They´re everywhere...Oh yeah, and they poop in front of our house every day. We´re not friends.  -_-

We have an investigator who is progressing! He´s a really great 19 year old kid (I can say that becasue I´m old now), and he´s a reference from the members and he´s awesome. He´s coming to church, he´s reading his book, he´s keeping his commitments, and this Sunday all these return and future missionaries spoke and he really liked it. I´ll keep you all posted. :)

Two missionaries came home in this ward this week, and Hna Armida finally got her mission call #MexicoPachuca! It was a glorious week of missionaries and missionary work, and i am so so so grateful for the priveledge (I don´t remember how to spell that word...) I have to be here serving a mission. There is nothing like serving the Lord; nothing better and nothing more important. It really is the best, happiest, hardest, most beautiful time of my life.

I love the mission! I see miracles ALL the time, and I am so so so so happy. I know that this Church is true. I know that my Heavenly Father has a plan for me, and for every single one of His children.

I love you all!!!

¡Vale la pena!

One Year, Mexico, & Time

Me, Hna Allen, Hna Schmit, Hna Montgomery, Elder Martinez, Elder Luna, Elder Bejar, Elder Tavarez
Hola!

So I hit a year this week..which is both terrifying and crazy. Crazy because I´ve been doing this thing for a whole year, terrifying because I only have 6 months left.

Un año!
It really is terrifying. But Hna Allen bought me pizza to make me feel better. jaj

Also, Mexico had a birthday too, and while sadly that meant that everyone was drinking the better part of the week, we also got to have a ward missionary activity.

And we got to dress up. We asked Hna Garcia for permission...and she said yes. We were very excited. jaja

But I think the ward was even more excited than we were. It was like "Dress up the gringa day" or something.

Hna Allen & I & Hna Torres (she´s in Campeche again!!)  & Hna Ramos

I am so very grateful for the opportunity I have to be serving a mission; to be here in Mexico with these people in this time. I know that this is what I should be doing and there really is no where else I´d rather be. I know this gospel is true, I can feel it every time I share it.

¡Vale la pena!

Meetings, Changes, & Santa Lucia

Zona Campeche With Elder Valenzuela
Okay sorry family but there were changes this week so this is going to be suuuppper short.

But I love ya!

This week we went to Mérida for a leadership conference. We left Monday night, and because Hna Torres had to go to immigration, we didn´t get back home until Wednesday afternoon.

Presidente & Hermana Garcia
BTWs...it KILLLSS me to not be able to work in my area..

Also this was the week of meetings...a lot of them. But I learned a lot, and I really loved my Zone here.

Changes were today....and I´m staying in Santa Lucia! I´m actually really excited because I love the ward here. Hna Torres is no longer my companion though. I am with Hna Mejía, she is also from Guatemala and she finishes up her mission this transfer.

Santa Lucia
And.....that´s about all I have time for. Just know that I love you all and I KNOW I am where I´m supposed to be.

There is no greater work than this. :)

¡Vale la pena!

Churros, Chances, & Carlos

Hola!

First of all, it was only like in the mid-80s for most of the week, and it seriously made my life. Do you know how nice it is to not be actively sweating all day long?? It was awesome....but I´m told the heat will be returning promptly. #woo

Second of all, we had traingings and interviews with Presidente this week. He´s literally such a powerhouse but also hilarious all at the same time. I love him.

This week Hna Torres and I got to go the JAS (YSA) conference that was on the beach and give a mission prep class with the assistentes and Hna Garcia and it was amazing! I got to see the ocean for the first time since I´ve been here (family-take note, we´re back there some day), and talk to a bunch of youth about why they should repent and go on a mission. Also Hna Garcia got us Costco food after. For the record, Costco is exactly the same here as in the states. #chickenbakeandachurro

And as I was giving these presentations I realized that Heavenly Father has been preparing me for this. I´ve "missed out on" a few experieces in my life; things that at the time I thought really I wanted but that I didn´t get. But I didn´t get to do those things because Heavenly Father had a different plan in mind. He knew that there was a better way for me to use my talents. And here I am, in Mexico, giving presentations and trainings (in Spanish, mind you); things that I didn´t even think of doing when I turned my papers in. And I am living it. Every single minute that I get here in the mission.

Like when Carlos got baptized this week. He´s been baptized three times in other churches but has finally found the truth and acted upon it.Or Miguel, my recent convert who told us that he just feels different now. Better.

Photo: Carlos´s baptism w/ Hna Torres and Hna Castro

Heavenly Father has a plan for each and every one of us. And it is so so so much better than anything we could have come up with on our own. Because He is perfect and He wants us to be happy and He knows exactly what we need to do to be able to be happy. And if we follow Him, and let Him guide our lives; He will make of us what we could never make of ourselves.

I love my Heavenly Father. I love being a missionary. And I love you all.

¡Vale la pena!
